Mid Wales has excellent opportunities for access on horseback, whether it’s on the myriad of quiet country lanes or the patchwork of bridleways that crisscross the countryside.
As a taster to the beautiful trails that Powys has to offer horse riders, a selection of routes have been developed along with maps and descriptions to help get you started. There are also some carriage driving routes to whet your appetite. For the full list of routes and maps click here:
With many bridleways cutting through this beautiful area, it is no surprise to find trekking centres and riding stables abound. Follow the Three Rivers Ride which enters the Brecon Beacons National Park at Hay Bluff and finishes at the Visitor Centre in Libanus www.ride-uk.org.uk
Bring your horse on holiday and stay at one of the B&Bs for horses in the area, or hire horses with a guide. Accommodation can be booked for you along the way, so all you have to do is enjoy the scenery and the experience of riding the beautiful Welsh Cobs.
Carriage Driving is popular, with the Dyfnant, Crychan and Radnor Forest offering superb riding and a full fixture of trotting races can be found here.
