Set in aquiet valley climbing up the Dyffryn Meifod in the old county of Mongomeryshire, Tanyllyn sits on a steep hillside surrounded by conifers, broadleaves and pastureland.
This natural garden grows into the landscape into the garden. The surroindings are seen through portholes, sculpted hedges and openings in the trees. Wild at the edges, the garden is taamer near the house with gravel, terracotta and a raised herb garden forming a backdrop to the tea garden where renowned home-made cakes are available. The garden has been shaped from simple materials, reclaimed sleepers, woven willow and quarry gravel, and been built up with perennial planting amongst established trees and shrubs.
